In Vermont Every Voice Can Be Heard

Picture
On March 10, 2010, hundreds of parents, students and educators attended a school consolidation hearing in Montpelier (includes video). They spoke passionately about their personal experiences with School Choice, and changed the course of consolidation legislation. The danger to School Choice has not receded. Montpelier needs more legislators who understand and will support the vital role of School Choice in Vermont's educational landscape.

Why School Choice and Why Now?

Voters CAN influence educational outcomes by being active in the Vermont 2010 election.
Whether your goal is to protect existing school choice or expand it, you believe in building on the successes of our educational system by electing legislators who will support parents finding the best educational fit for their child. If candidates know you care they will be more likely to develop school choice friendly positions.

You understand that education is not one size fits all.
Finding the best educational fit for a child can mean the difference between success or failure, excellence or mediocrity, love of learning or apathy, cooperation or disruption. Individual school culture, curriculum, size, extra curricular activities, proximity to parents' place of work, and classroom dynamics are just a few of the reasons parents cite for wanting to choose their child's school.

Why now?
In the 2010 session the legislature passed H.66 a voluntary consolidation bill. What was learned during that process was school choice must be dealt with in any consolidation discussion. Act 153 (H.66) contains a provision to study the potential effect of statewide education vouchers. The State Board of Education has formed a Redistricting Commission, their findings will eventually make their way to the legislature.
